Learn From Your Mistakes, Before You Make Them
One of the difficulties we've encountered in demonstrating Agent Based Modelling and Simulation is that an explanation in abstract terms cannot convey the real tangible benefit of seeing the full potential impact of your decisions before you apply them in real life.
So we designed a business game to allow clients to experience the power of Agent Based Modelling and Simulation for themselves, by putting their decision making skills on the line in a simulated environment.
The Institute of Directors has taken this concept a stage further and has used the game for training and development for business consultants, uncovering some fundamental business mistakes. Read the case study.

How To Play
With households modelled as independent agents, acting autonomously in a virtual town, up to 4 teams each assume the role of a light bulb manufacturer.
Each team is charged with efficiently manufacturing and selling light bulbs and must make strategic decisions about the
- purchase of raw materials
- number of staff to employ
- pricing strategy
- marketing spend
with the opportunity to update strategy at the end of each “quarter”.
Each household (agent) will purchase light bulbs based on its unique knowledge of prices from exposure to each team's marketing and 'word of mouth' (inter-agent conversations), taking into account each manufacturer's stock holding.
The financial performance of each team is tracked throughout the game and a winner can be declared at any stage.
